The John Moore Pike Trophy 2013 winner is…
Firstly, a big thank you for those taking part in the MSSC Angling’s event, The John Moore Pike Trophy. We were blessed with dry conditions for the entire morning contrary to the forecast heavy rain, although the bitterly cold wind was not so welcome. After a quick brief in the pubs car park we quickly dispersed across the river meadows. Quick success with a Jack Pike apiece by Andy D and myself put us on the scoreboard within twenty minutes of starting. After many areas tried by the competitors, it was an hour or so until the next Pike struck, this time to Kev S taking the lead with a 4lb 12 oz Pike. This fish was quickly threatened by Jon P’s four pound example. As the clock ticked by, no more Pike showed despite all competitors being focused and fishing hard. The last hour proved decisive, I had a four pounder but that still kept Kev S in the leaders position. That was to change as the fishing machine that is Robin L was rewarded when 3 hours of hard effort for no reward finally paid off with a last minute flurry of action. A brace of fish to five pounds and losing a bigger specimen sealed the match for Robin in the final minutes. All Anglers fished hard and well on a unusually cold March day but it was all about luck dropping on fish that fancied a feed, so only a few were caught. Overall not a bad result and the 2013 champion was secured with a fine Angling display. Can’t wait for next year!
